Honestly exceeded my expectations.. now that the 'captain obvious pun' has been used, getting back to the review.
We came here as a group of 5 and considering the ample space, we were seated immediately. Decor reminded me of 'Gopals or Sindhi sweets' in India. Casual yet peppy
We ordered the dahi puri & Chinese bhel to share while we we waited for our pav bhajis. Also, since it's so hard to get good Indo Chinese I went all in and ordered the Hakka noodles.
Dahi puri was amazing, Chinese bhel was way better than Hakka noodles. The honest special pav bhaji was just like the one we get back home. For beverages I had the fresh sugarcane juice and tasted the kaju badam shake.. the shake was a bit too thick and choked with nuts. Sugarcane juice was decent.
I read couple reviews discrediting the service but our server was very friendly. A bit disorganized but not the biggest deal.
Important thing to note is that I also happened to try the Honest located in Schaumburg soon after I visited the Naperville branch. Schaumburg experience was a horrible one. Pav bhaji wasn't fresh, they ran out of sugarcane juice, shake options are limited and it was also self service. So I was left a bit confused as to the discrepancy in these two branches.
Definitely disappointed with the Schaumburg branch, however, I'll recommend putting in the extra 15 min to drive down here instead. -

I wanted to try this new Vegetarian restaurant because I like vegetables and I like restaurants! And- I "Honest-Ly" love this place!
-Kind, Friendly Staff
-Serene and esthetically lovely space
-Food is prepared with care: fresh ingredients, wonderfully balanced spices, with many authentic Indian appetizers, meals, and dessert options
I truly enjoyed the sandwich that I ordered, the "Chicago Honest Special". A bit spicy, complimented by delicate Aloo cheese and veggies. Quite filling.
Will definitely be back. My only reservation on giving the 5 star is that I ordered it carry out, and it did take over 15 minutes to prepare.
Highly recommend and I will be back! -

This is probably what's wrong with Indian restaurants in the US. They just seem not able to hold up the standards or as laid back as in the land & have just taken up things for granted!! I mean if you look around every country takes pride in their cuisine, be it Mexican, Italian, French you name it but not Indian joints. Though I feel the prices are on the higher side but that's not my complaint. It's the presentation and the simple thought that someone would eat the food hence that last mile of thought to add joy matters.
I frequent this place often but never again after my today's takeout experience. Ordered a Dahi Puri for to-go and what I got when I opened the box was a mash of everything with sauces/chutneys all out in the bag and all over the box . Take a look at the picture. Just a bit of rush (weekend / holiday) and snap!! Caring for the customer flushes out of the system.
The one star is because there needs to be one. If it were up to me would have given a negative star!!! -

I went to Honest for a second time. Like last time, the food was great. The service was...not great.
The spring dosa was interesting. It was a bit brummagem. It didn't seem authentically Indian, but it was tasty. I would describe it as a Indo-Chinese style veggies wrapped in dosa.
The samosa chaat was really good. The yogurt and red sauce tapered the spiciness of the samosas. I also enjoyed the utthappam with coconut sauce.
The milkshake was overpriced. It was $6 for basically milk blended with nuts. -

A decent good joint with some well made Indian dishes.
They have very few Vegan options, but I still appreciate that they atleast sounded educated about the concept of vegan food and concerned about food allergies so extra credit for that!
My family enjoyed the pav bhaji, noodles and the manchurian. My dosa was made vegan and they made sure there was no dairy (biggest concern with Indian food). dosa was just Ok, could have been better.
My family also appreciates the selection of ice creams at this place.
